Held at EXCO for 3 Days
The 14th Daegu Flower Show 2023, which offered citizens the beauty of nature, art, and flowers, concluded on the 4th after a three-day event.
Held to revitalize the local floriculture industry and promote flower consumption, the Daegu Flower Show, which opened on the 2nd, featured a record 172 floriculture-related organizations and companies participating, with a total of 725 booths. Over the three days, more than 38,000 visitors attended, solidifying its status as the largest indoor flower show in South Korea.
The exhibition hall was composed of the ‘Theme Hall,’ displaying large floral works symbolizing this year’s theme, ‘The Power of Flowers,’ the ‘Cheongra Sang-gwan,’ which reinterpreted the theme through floral works, the ‘Local Government Hall’ to promote floriculture culture of local governments, and the ‘General Exhibition Hall,’ where wildflowers, pressed flowers, terrariums, flower arrangements, succulents, and horticultural therapy were expressed according to each theme. Additionally, the ‘Corporate Hall (Flower Outlet),’ where visitors could experience and purchase floriculture-related products, attracted many citizens.
Hong Jun-pyo, Mayor of Daegu, who visited the expo, said, “I would like to thank many floriculture industry stakeholders who worked hard to make the Daegu Flower Show a success,” adding, “Many consumers came to the flower festival, creating an opportunity for floriculture farmers to generate income and revitalizing the local floriculture industry.”
Now in its 14th year, the Daegu Flower Show was praised for reinterpreting ‘flowers,’ which appear purer and more beautiful in nature, through various works, showing the coexistence of flowers and people.
Throughout the expo hall, connected like a vast garden, the theme of ‘daily life where people and nature coexist’ was revealed through various works. In the Theme Hall, themed ‘Flying MBTI,’ visitors could see sculptures depicting people blooming various flowers according to their personalities, dyed by the power of flowers.
In the Cheongra Sang-gwan, themed around ‘The Cosmic Power of Flowers,’ ‘Rainbow Flower Path (Healing Gate),’ and ‘The Primordial Earth,’ visitors could experience the infinite energy held by flowers directed toward people.
While past flower shows emphasized the ‘splendor of flowers,’ this year’s event shared the direction the floriculture industry should take amid the climate change crisis and the realization of carbon neutrality. Through floral works linked to social issues?such as healing agriculture and flowers, upcycling works using recycled materials, and moss plants contributing to carbon neutrality?the show provided a moment to reconsider the ‘nature’ we must cherish and nurture.
In addition, various side events offered visitors entertainment and enjoyment, including the ‘Daegu Living Floriculture Competition’ showcasing florists’ skills, an Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement) exhibition, flower media art, healing classes, a comprehensive healing horticulture experience zone, easy and fun succulent art, and examples of healing agriculture activities using flowers.
