Apple Unveils MR Headset 'Vision Pro' Priced Around 4.5 Million Won
Team Cook "Will Showcase Spatial Computing Technology"
iPhone manufacturer Apple unveiled its mixed reality (MR) headset on the 5th (local time). The MR headset is Apple's ambitious product released nine years after the Apple Watch, which was first introduced in 2014. It is known that more than 1,000 developers have been working on its development for over seven years.
Vision Pro will be sold in the United States starting early next year at $3,499 (approximately 4.56 million KRW) and will later expand to other countries. When using an external battery, it lasts up to two hours.
On the same day, Apple held its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, where its headquarters are located, and introduced the MR headset 'Vision Pro.' MR is a concept that extends augmented reality (AR), which overlays three-dimensional virtual objects onto the real world. It is a technology that enables interaction between reality and virtuality.
The 'Vision Pro,' shaped like ski goggles, is equipped with cameras and sensors that allow users to operate the device through their eyes, hands, and voice on the new operating system visionOS. It can access hundreds of thousands of existing iPhone and iPad apps that run automatically, seamlessly blending digital content with the physical world.
For example, when wearing the 'Vision Pro' and making a FaceTime call, the user's appearance is digitally reproduced in life size, and the user's facial expressions and hand gestures are reflected in real time. Users can watch movies together, browse photos, or collaborate on presentations. When watching a movie, the screen can be expanded up to 100 feet (30 meters) wide, creating the atmosphere of a personal theater equipped with an advanced spatial audio system.
