Last Year Apple App Store Revenue $1.1 Trillion... South Korea $29 Billion
Apple cited a survey by consulting firm Analysis Group, revealing that developer revenue and sales on the App Store reached $1.1 trillion (approximately 1,452 trillion KRW) last year. This represents a 29% increase compared to the previous year.
Global developer revenue and sales on the App Store grew by 27% in both 2020 and 2021, maintaining a growth rate in the 20% range. More than 90% of the App Store revenue and sales, excluding the commission paid to Apple, go to the developers. Last year, the Korean App Store revenue was $29 billion (approximately 38 trillion KRW), accounting for about 2.6% of the total.

View original imageSpecifically, last year App Store developers generated total revenue and sales of $910 billion (approximately 1,201 trillion KRW) from physical goods and services sales, $109 billion (approximately 144 trillion KRW) from in-app advertising, and $104 billion (approximately 137 trillion KRW) from digital goods and services sales. Notably, income for small developers surged by about 71% between 2020 and 2022.
The App Store supports 195 local payment methods and 44 currencies across 175 stores for developers. In 2022, 54% of downloads occurred outside the developers’ country of residence. The average weekly global visitors to the App Store in 2022 reached 650 million. Users downloaded over 747 million times per week on average and performed more than 1.5 billion redownloads.
Currently, there are 1.8 million apps on the App Store. This is a 123-fold increase compared to the few thousand apps available at the end of 2008. iOS developers earned over $320 billion (approximately 422 trillion KRW) in total revenue through the App Store from 2008 to 2022. iOS users downloaded apps more than 370 billion times between 2008 and 2022.
