Korea Airports Corporation Expands Overseas Airport Business... Relay Meetings with Aviation Authorities
Korea Airports Corporation announced on the 1st that it held individual meetings with aviation authorities from the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, and Angola, who visited Korea for the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS), to promote a relay of discussions aimed at expanding overseas airport business.

View original imageOn the 31st of last month, President Yoon Hyung-jung met with Hector Porcella Dumas, Director of the Dominican Republic Civil Aviation Authority, at the headquarters in Gangseo-gu to review the preparation status of the ‘Featherdales New Airport Construction Feasibility Study Project’.
The corporation is preparing for a feasibility study on the Featherdales New Airport construction project. In March, it signed a cooperation agreement with the Dominican Republic Presidential Office to promote the Featherdales New Airport construction project. In April, Vice President Raquel Pena visited the corporation and pledged cooperation on the project.
President Yoon also met with Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of Transportation of Indonesia, and agreed to mutually cooperate on the Komodo Airport expansion and operation project, which the corporation is discussing with the Indonesian government, as well as on revitalizing regional airports and opening direct flights from local areas in Indonesia to promote balanced regional development.
In particular, during Minister Sumadi’s visit to Jeju Airport, the corporation introduced operational know-how of airports serving as representative tourist destinations in Korea and explained the status of its Urban Air Mobility (UAM) project, suggesting utilization plans considering Indonesia’s national characteristic of having the largest number of islands in the world.
On the 30th of last month, at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido, the corporation met with Ricardo Viegas, Minister of Transportation of Angola, and introduced the airport operation consulting project currently being implemented in Colombia. The corporation committed to continuously support the development of the aviation industry through airport consulting for the successful operation of Luanda International Airport, scheduled to open in 2024, and next-generation expert training programs for aviation professionals.
