Hyundai Mobis Breaks Ground on New Battery System Plant in Indonesia

Supply to Local Main Vehicle Models in the First Half of Next Year

Hyundai Mobis announced on the 1st that it will build a battery system factory in Indonesia. The company plans to lead one axis of the electrification ecosystem, which connects cells, battery systems, and complete vehicles.

On the 31st (local time), a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the factory site located in Bekasi City, West Java Province, on the outskirts of Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. This factory will serve as Hyundai Mobis's dedicated electrification hub targeting the ASEAN market. It will receive battery cells from the battery cell joint venture (HLI Green Power), modularize controllers and thermal management devices, and supply them as large battery systems to complete vehicles.

Hyundai Motor Group will invest a total of 60 million USD (approximately 80 billion KRW) in the Indonesian factory, establishing a plant on a 33,000㎡ (about 10,000 pyeong) site. The battery systems will be primarily supplied to the main electric vehicle models launching in Southeast Asia next year. Two types of battery systems will be produced: a long-range type equipped with high-capacity cells and a standard type.

Hyundai Mobis currently produces electric vehicle parts, including battery systems, in South Korea and Europe (Czech Republic, Slovakia). In October last year, it announced a total investment plan of 1.3 billion USD by 2030 to expand its electrification production base in North America. Currently, five additional electrification parts factories are being established in Alabama and Georgia in North America.
