Gyeonggi-do Signs Agreement with Gyeonggi Police to Identify Vulnerable Welfare Households
Gyeonggi Province has joined hands with the police to identify households at risk of falling through the welfare safety net.
On the 31st, Gyeonggi Province announced that it had signed a written business agreement with the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency and the Gyeonggi Bukbu Police Agency to establish a system where police officers who identify at-risk households in welfare blind spots during their duties can report them to the province’s emergency welfare crisis counseling hotline, enabling prompt welfare support procedures.
According to the agreement, the Gyeonggi Nambu and Bukbu Police Agencies will report neighbors in need of help to the Gyeonggi Province Emergency Welfare Crisis Counseling Hotline (010-4419-7722).
While some cities and counties had individually promoted cooperation with the police to identify welfare blind spots, this agreement is significant as it establishes a cooperative system at the provincial level to activate the identification and reporting of welfare blind spots throughout Gyeonggi Province.
Gyeonggi Province will provide support for living expenses, housing, and medical costs to neighbors reported to the emergency welfare crisis counseling hotline who qualify for existing welfare programs such as basic livelihood security, lower-income brackets, and emergency welfare. Even if they do not qualify for existing welfare programs, the province plans to connect them with private sponsorship welfare services as needed to resolve crisis situations.
As part of public-private cooperation to prevent a recurrence of the 'Suwon Three Mothers Incident' and to guarantee welfare rights for residents in crisis, Gyeonggi Province is promoting the following: ▲Christian, Catholic, and Buddhist organizations posting promotional materials and conducting education on identifying and reporting welfare blind spots ▲Gyeonggi Pharmaceutical Association producing and distributing promotional stickers to pharmacies in the province ▲Real Estate Agents Association distributing promotional materials to licensed real estate agents ▲Small Business Federation promoting via website banners, flyers for members, and KakaoTalk ▲Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education posting notices on its website and promoting via apps to parents ▲National Health Insurance Service Incheon-Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters identifying and reporting during long-term care grade assessments ▲Korea Electric Power Corporation Gyeonggi Headquarters and Gyeonggi Bukbu Headquarters identifying and reporting during electricity meter readings.

Kim Neung-sik, Director of the Welfare Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, "Although Gyeonggi Province is operating a welfare blind spot identification support system in cooperation with related organizations and groups, there are limits to what public organizations alone can do, so the interest and cooperation of neighbors are crucial." He urged, "If you discover neighbors in crisis, please contact the Gyeonggi Province Emergency Welfare Crisis Counseling Hotline, the Gyeonggi Call Center (031-120), or the Eup/Myeon/Dong Administrative Welfare Center."
