Gochang-gun Conducts 'Radiation Disaster Prevention Resident Protection Intensive Training'
Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk announced on the 31st that it conducted the 2023 Radiation Disaster Prevention Resident Protection Intensive Training at the Gochang-gun Gymnasium in preparation for a radiation disaster at Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant.
The training involved about 200 residents, including those from Sangha-myeon, an area adjacent to the power plant, as well as residents from Gong-eum-myeon, Haeri-myeon, Simwon-myeon, and students from Gangho Aviation High School.
Additionally, several related organizations participated together, including the 8098 Unit, Gochang Fire Station, Gochang Police Station, and the Gochang branch of the Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant Civil Environmental Safety Monitoring Center.
Residents and students living near the nuclear power plant who participated in the training evacuated to the relief center at the county gymnasium by vehicle according to the plan upon an emergency alert, assuming a radiation leak situation.
Upon arrival, residents underwent radiation contamination checks before entering the relief center, toured experience booths, and received safety education on radiation emergency response procedures.
The county operated disaster photo exhibitions and radiation measurement experience centers within the relief center to help residents understand radiation disasters.
The Gochang-gun Radiation Disaster Prevention Headquarters was also operated to command the training situation and conduct practical training using the Emergency Response Information Exchange System (ERIX).
A county official stated, “We hope to strengthen the collaboration and response system among related organizations including the county, enhance residents’ emergency response capabilities in the event of an actual accident, and that there will be continued interest in the county’s radiation disaster prevention training.”
