Resolution Delivery and Urging Suspension of Hwanggang Intake Facility Installation Project
The Citizens' Countermeasure Committee related to the Hwanggang Wide-Area Water Intake Facility in Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam, visited the Ministry of Environment on the 30th with all members of the Hapcheon-gun Council and about 20 Hapcheon-gun officials. They read a resolution expressing the committee's strong determination in front of the government building and held a meeting with Ministry of Environment officials.
During the meeting, with three Ministry of Environment officials attending, the committee delivered the resolution and recent photos of Hapcheon Dam revealing its bottom due to insufficient flow, urging the suspension of the Hwanggang water intake facility installation project, which is being unilaterally pushed forward without residents' consent.

We will not proceed with the Hwanggang water intake facility installation project unilaterally without residents' consent."
Chairman Lee Jong-cheol strongly requested the suspension of the Ministry of Environment's water source diversification project, which is still proceeding without residents' consent despite a large-scale protest on January 17.
Additionally, the Ministry of Environment warned, "The Nakdong River Basin Water Management Committee's conditional review and approval of residents' consent is being misused as a shield to push the project forward," and urged, "Installing the water intake facility is not the answer; fundamental water management measures must be devised to ensure a safe drinking water supply."
