As the first step, Mayor Lee expanded the government office cafeteria.
Until now, employees using the cafeteria had to endure long waiting times during the busy lunch hours and start their afternoon work without sufficient rest after eating.
In response, the civil servants' union conveyed employees' voices, and the district quickly took improvement measures by remodeling the former computer training room into an expanded cafeteria.
To make meals not just a quick bite but a happy dining experience, the interior was designed in a cafe style during the renovation, which has been well received by employees.
Starting in June, simple breakfasts such as toast and bananas will be newly provided for night-shift workers and early arrivals to support their health. The district is making efforts so that employees come to work with joy and take pride in working in Gangdong District.
Mayor Lee Su-hee, who will soon mark her first anniversary in office, also dines together in the cafeteria, listening attentively to employees' voices. While comfortably dining in the cafeteria, she plans to gradually improve the working environment by openly hearing the opinions of frontline staff.
Recently, the turnover rate of civil servants with less than five years of service has been rapidly increasing in local governments.
