Namwon City to Hold 'Chunhyang Festival' at Gwanghallu Garden Area on the 25th
The 93rd Chunhyang Festival, Korea's premier regional festival boasting history and tradition, will be held from the 25th to the 29th at Gwanghallu Pavilion and the Yocheon area.
According to Namwon City on the 24th, this year's festival, held under the theme "Chunhyang, Drawing Light," will open with the Chunhyang Jesa, a ritual ceremony honoring Chunhyang's spirit and praying for the safety of the people.
Starting with the Chunhyang Jesa, performances such as "Musical Chunhyang" by students of Namwon Gugak Arts High School and "Yongdam Sword Dance," a traditional martial art unique to our nation, will take the stage.
Additionally, there will be a fashion show featuring traditional Korean clothing, Hanbok, and a "Chunhyang Yocheon-ro Concert" performed by local Namwon singers and invited artists, offering a variety of attractions and enjoyable performances.
On the 25th, as a pre-opening event, a drone and fireworks show equipped with fireworks will light up the sky above the Yocheon riverside. The drone and fireworks show, embodying the meaning of "Chunhyang, Drawing Light," will be the highlight performance of the pre-opening event, brilliantly decorating the night sky.
On the 26th, the Chunhyang Festival opening ceremony will be held at Wanwoljeong, followed immediately by the "Chunhyang Selection Contest," the festival's representative program to select Korea's top traditional beauty.
Meanwhile, the opening performance will begin with the Namwon City Gugak Orchestra's powerful and stylish Ipchum (a fundamental dance form that serves as the basis for all dances, performed freely and spiritedly without formal constraints), naturally transitioning into the Sogo Dance, called "Ipchum Sogo." The medley of folk songs from all eight provinces, "Paldo Minyo Yeongok," which reflects regional characteristics, will enliven the atmosphere of the opening ceremony.
