CU announced on the 21st that it will launch a shaved ice dessert using Hongsi, a specialty product of Cheongdo-gun, Gyeongbuk, to welcome the full summer season.
The 'Cheongdo Hongsi Bingsu,' launching on the 22nd, is a premium shaved ice dessert made with Hongsi from Cheongdo. As daytime temperatures begin to exceed 30 degrees Celsius, CU has strengthened its shaved ice lineup by releasing this summer's representative product about half a month earlier than usual.

View original imageFrom the 1st to the 19th of this month, CU's ice cream sales increased by 31.3% compared to the same period last year. This growth rate surpasses the overall ice cream sales growth of 25.6% in May last year, and specifically, shaved ice sales alone rose by 21.4% compared to the same period last year.
The Cheongdo Hongsi Bingsu features Hongsi puree syrup placed on the top to emphasize its sweet flavor. Beneath it, the structure is characterized by two and three layers of finely crushed ice particles mixed with Hongsi juice and soft-textured milk ice. Slightly melting and mixing it enhances the sweetness of the Hongsi.
Although CU has previously introduced shaved ice desserts using various fruits such as watermelon and strawberry, this is the first time they have used Hongsi. This product was developed in line with the recent 'Halmaennial' trend, where non-stimulating and sweet products are popular. It also utilizes specialty products from Cheongdo-gun to help support local farmers' income.
