Yeosu 'Yulchon Sodeongi Port' Fishing Village New Vitality Project Kicks Off
Kick-off Meeting Held at Gwangam Village Hall
50 Billion Won Invested by 2025 to Expand Fishing Port Safety and Convenience Facilities
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) recently held a kickoff briefing session for the ‘Sodeongi Port Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project Basic Plan Establishment’ at Gwangam Village Hall in Yulchon-myeon, announcing the full-scale launch of the project.
The ‘Sodeongi Port Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project’ was finally selected in January this year as a public contest project hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. Approximately 5 billion KRW, including 3.5 billion KRW in national funds, will be invested to expand port safety facilities and convenience facilities.
At the briefing session, attended by 30 people including the Korea Rural Community Corporation and local residents, Yeosu City explained the project plan to help understand the purpose of the project and held a time for listening to opinions from local residents.
Yeosu City plans to complete the basic plan establishment by August and start construction early next year. By 2025, it intends to carry out projects such as breakwater construction, installation of floating piers, maintenance of rest areas, and resident capacity-building programs.
Kim Jeong-o, Director of the Island Development Support Division, said, “Starting from this briefing session, we will hold regular local council meetings to actively reflect residents’ opinions in the project,” and added, “We will make every effort to ensure the safe fishing activities at Yulchon Sodeongi Port and improve the quality of life for fishermen.”
