Special Forces Unit Replaces 40-Year-Old Machine Gun... SNT Motive Supplies New Modular Submachine Gun
'Special Operations Submachine Gun Type II Project' Contract Signed
One Year of Testing and Evaluation, Final Combat Suitability Confirmed
Enhancing Future Combat Power, Building Global Competitiveness
SNT Motive's newly developed special operations submachine gun, created with proprietary technology, will replace the 40-year-old K1A submachine gun.
Global small-caliber firearms manufacturer SNT Motive announced on the 17th that it has signed a supply contract with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration for the "Special Operations Submachine Gun Type II Project."
The "Special Operations Submachine Gun Type II Project" is a competitive bidding process to supply rifles for special forces used in special operations such as counter-terrorism and urban warfare, aimed at replacing the worn-out K1A submachine guns that have been used by special forces units for over 40 years.
In the competitive bidding, SNT Motive's ‘STC-16’ 5.56mm special operations submachine gun was selected, and after undergoing military-required testing and evaluation last year, it received the final combat suitability certification on April 13.
Accordingly, it will be supplied for use by domestic special forces from the end of this year. For the first time in Korea, a silencer, which was previously purchased separately and attached, will be included in the supply.
The STC-16 was developed using proprietary technology by applying the global trend of "modularization" in rifle development. "Modularization" is a method that allows various parts such as barrels, handguards, and stocks to be replaced as needed.
It is known that the application of the latest manufacturing technologies has improved accuracy and durability. It also considered military requirements for various operational environments, including the need for shorter weight and barrel length during special operations such as urban warfare and airborne drops.
Various auxiliary devices such as dot sights, flashlights, and laser target designators can also be mounted to maximize operational usability. It is designed for ambidextrous use, considering both right- and left-handed users, and maintenance has been improved through component enhancements.
An SNT Motive official stated, "In the small-caliber firearms field, we are continuously researching and developing lightweight and highly accurate weapons required by modern warfare in line with the 'K-Defense' era, striving to strengthen future national defense capabilities," adding, "With the supply of the STC-16, we will establish a supply foundation for special operations submachine guns and next-generation rifles with global competitiveness."
