Gaon Group Subsidiary Gaon Broadband Secures Consecutive Public Wi-Fi Projects
Gaon Group is expanding its presence in the public sector by dominating the nationwide metropolitan and provincial offices of education public Wi-Fi projects through its subsidiaries.
Gaon Group (CEO Lim Dong-yeon) announced on the 16th that its subsidiary Gaon Broadband has secured an additional contract for the public Wi-Fi construction project for education offices and will supply wireless routers (APs) until the end of August.
The locations confirmed for supply this time are ▲Busan Metropolitan City ▲Incheon Metropolitan City ▲Daejeon Metropolitan City ▲Chungcheongnam-do Office of Education. Wi-Fi 6 (WIFI 6) APs will be supplied to newly established schools, special classrooms, and classrooms with demands for replacing outdated equipment in these regions.
Gaon Broadband participated in the nationwide school public Wi-Fi construction project led by the National Information Society Agency (NIA) in 2021, supplying APs to elementary, middle, and high schools in 12 out of 17 regions nationwide. Since then, it has consecutively won additional projects individually conducted by metropolitan and provincial offices of education across the country. Despite being a latecomer in the industry since its launch in 2020, it has successfully established itself in the public market.
A company representative stated, “Our technological capability to provide integrated solutions including network equipment and operation systems, along with verified references centered on the global market, were key factors,” adding, “As public Wi-Fi projects are expected to continue nationwide, this year we plan to expand the business to public places such as parks, bus stops, and libraries.”
The public Wi-Fi construction project is a government-driven initiative continuously promoted to enhance citizens’ communication welfare and to advance as a smart developed country. In March, a bill related to the activation of public Wi-Fi passed the National Assembly standing committee, raising expectations for service expansion.
