It is an important ecological resource where both inland and coastal wetlands are formed, creating a unique wetland ecosystem where terrestrial and marine environments can be observed simultaneously.
In addition, it is equipped with location conditions that can make it a center for ecotourism, as the Namhae Baraegil main route Course 1 Baraeosida-gil, the national ecological trail Ecopark-gil, and Coastal Bicycle Route 2 are scattered throughout the area.
At the Wetland Conservation Committee meeting held on the 9th at the Gyeongnam Public Activity Support Center conference room, review members including Jeong Seok-won, Director of the Environment and Forestry Bureau, noted that Ip-hyeon Landfill is not only a major habitat for endangered species such as the Black-faced Spoonbill, Whooper Swan, Yellow-billed Spoonbill, Otter, and Leopard Cat, but also an important ecological space that can be used as a breeding ground, highly evaluating its excellence.
The designation period for the representative excellent wetland of Gyeongsangnam-do is three years from May 2023, and during this period, benefits such as priority support for national and provincial subsidies in the field of nature conservation, including 50 million KRW of provincial funds, will be provided.
Governor Jang Chung-nam said, “I am very pleased that the designation of Ip-hyeon Landfill as a representative excellent wetland of Gyeongsangnam-do allows us to properly reveal the hidden value of Ip-hyeon Landfill, which has excellent natural scenery and biodiversity,” and added, “We will further devote ourselves to the conservation and management of Ip-hyeon Landfill, which has high ecological and conservation value, including the coexistence of inland and coastal wetlands.”
