Implemented with Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute and Resource Circulation Social Solidarity
Approximately 12.5t collected through last year's campaign
LG Electronics is taking the lead in resource circulation of used batteries from cordless vacuum cleaners.
LG Electronics announced on the 8th that it will carry out the 'Battery Turn' campaign, which collects used batteries from premium cordless vacuum cleaners CodeZero A9 and A9S until the 30th of next month, allowing customers to participate in resource circulation and offering discounts when purchasing new batteries. This campaign is jointly hosted by LG Electronics, the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, and the Resource Circulation Social Solidarity, with support from the Ministry of Environment.

Customers who wish to participate in the campaign can return used cordless vacuum cleaner batteries to any LG Electronics service center nationwide, regardless of the manufacturer. After returning the used battery, customers can receive a 20,000 KRW discount when purchasing a new battery at the service center. Customers who find it difficult to visit an LG Electronics service center can return used batteries to nearby used home appliance collection boxes. The locations of these collection boxes can be checked on the Resource Circulation Practice Platform website. In this case, customers can also purchase new batteries at a discounted price of 11,000 KRW off through the LG Electronics website.
From one battery of the LG CodeZero A9S cordless vacuum cleaner, rare metals such as nickel (31.91g), cobalt (4.21g), lithium (6.06g), and manganese (2.04g) are recovered. LG Electronics plans to recycle the rare metals extracted from the collected batteries as new battery materials. LG Electronics also conducted a used battery collection campaign for cordless vacuum cleaners last year. The collected used batteries over two months from May last year amounted to approximately 12.5 tons, equivalent to more than 27,000 A9S batteries. The rare metals extracted from this amount can be used to manufacture 22,000 new A9S batteries.
