Jeju Coast Guard Holds Coastal Safety Keeper Appointment Ceremony and Job Training
Jeju Coast Guard Station (Chief So Byung-yong) announced on the 4th that on the 3rd, a commissioning ceremony and job training were held for eight coastal safety keepers, composed of local residents, at the 4th-floor auditorium of the Jeju Coast Guard Station to prevent coastal accidents.
The Jeju Coast Guard conducted the commissioning ceremony, explained key duties, and provided job training on emergency treatment (CPR and AED usage) to work together with the coastal safety keepers for six months in preventing coastal accidents and conducting rapid rescue activities in the Jeju sea coastal areas.
The eight commissioned coastal safety keepers were selected through document screening, physical fitness evaluation, and interviews as local residents who are well acquainted with the characteristics of the coastal waters, in accordance with the "Act on the Prevention of Coastal Accidents."
Additionally, from the 5th until October 31st, about six months, a total of eight people will be assigned in pairs of two to four high-risk coastal areas around Kimnyeong, Yongdam, Gonae, and Yongsu. They will perform preventive patrols and safety guidance duties for 3 to 4 hours during 15 days each month (11 weekdays and 4 weekends) during peak safety management demand hours.
A Jeju Coast Guard official said, "We expect the operation of coastal safety keepers to greatly contribute to preventing coastal accidents in Jeju," and added, "We will strengthen coastal water safety management further through public-private cooperation so that citizens can engage in safe coastal activities."
