Gyeonggi Fire Department Strengthens Emergency Communication Network for Disaster Response
Gyeonggi-do Fire Department is strengthening cooperation with the Amateur Radio Cooperation Committee for emergency communication networks necessary for disaster response.
The Amateur Radio Cooperation Committee, chaired by the Head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, consists of 15 members including 5 ex officio members who are senior officials from the headquarters and the province, and 10 external appointed members. It has been active since March 2016.
On the 4th, the Fire and Disaster Headquarters held a meeting with the Amateur Radio Cooperation Committee in the 6th-floor video conference room of the headquarters building and newly appointed 6 new members, including Park Sang-bok, Head of the Korea Amateur Radio League Gyeonggi-do Branch.
They also discussed amateur radio activities for disaster communication safety management, future operation plans, and education and training to revitalize amateur radio. In particular, they agreed to join forces in mobilizing radio equipment during disasters, as well as in life-saving, damage recovery activities, and providing support services to disaster victims.

Jo Seon-ho, Head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, said, "We have high expectations for the newly appointed members," and added, "We will actively reflect the various opinions raised in this meeting in policies such as utilizing emergency communication networks for disaster preparedness."
