'Ppotongryong' 20th Anniversary... SKB's 'Pororo is Definitely ZEM' Promotion
SK Broadband announced on the 4th that it will hold the promotion "Pororo is definitely ZEM (Jam)" to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the birth of Korea's representative animation character, Pororo.
Pororo is Korea's representative animation character loved for 20 years since it first aired as "Porong Porong Pororo" in June 2003. SK Broadband is the only co-copyright holder in the IPTV industry that has continuously invested in the production of Pororo since 2002, together with ICONIX, OCON, and EBS.
Pororo, which has aired about 400 episodes including Season 7 and special series, has gained unparalleled popularity with a cumulative viewing time of 200 million hours on B tv ZEM. It was surveyed as the most preferred character and animation among children aged 3 to 9, earning the nickname "Porotong" (Pororo President) (2021 Korea Creative Content Agency), and achieved the highest overseas sales record for domestic original animation (over 130 countries). A report (2015 Freedom Economy Institute Entrepreneur Research Group) estimated Pororo's economic effect at 5.7 trillion KRW and its brand value at 800 billion KRW.
SK Broadband will run the "Pororo is definitely ZEM" 20th anniversary promotion through B tv ZEM from Children's Day on the 5th to the 18th. As it has always been the first to present each season to B tv customers, the special new 20th anniversary work "Dispatch! Rina Kingdom Operation" will also be exclusively broadcast on B tv for two weeks. The new work, boasting quality comparable to a theatrical release, will be offered at a much cheaper price than movie tickets (1,650 KRW including VAT).
Additionally, SK Broadband will provide generous prizes such as Louis Vuitton bags, Nintendo Switch OLED, and AirPods Pro 2nd generation through a lottery for viewers of "Dispatch! Rina Kingdom Operation," who have accompanied Pororo for 20 years. Also, 100 subscribers to the monthly subscription product "Super Kids Club," which allows unlimited and affordable enjoyment of about 80,000 kids' contents anytime and anywhere, will receive Starbucks gifticons.
Various technologies will also be applied for Pororo's past and future. By applying SK Telecom's "SUPERNOVA" and SK Broadband's "VQE (Video Quality Enhancement)" technologies to Pororo Season 2, which was originally in SD quality, all seasons of Pororo content can be enjoyed in FHD quality for the first time on IPTV.
Lee Kang-hee, head of segment marketing at SK Broadband, said, "The continuous investment in Pororo was to allow ZEM customers to meet new Pororo content a little faster." He added, "We have prepared generous prize events as a reward for customers who have consistently loved Pororo. We ask for much interest and anticipation for the Pororo 20th anniversary special video 'Dispatch! Rina Kingdom Operation' and the newly released 'Pororo Season 8' in August."
