Korean Prime Minister Attends '2023 Carbon Neutral Energy Policy Seminar'... "Will Lead R&D Support"
Prime Minister Han Duck-soo stated at the '2023 Carbon Neutrality and Energy Policy International Seminar' held on the 3rd at the International Conference Room of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (hereinafter KCCI) in Seoul, "We are well aware of the burdens on the industry and the difficulties of technological innovation," and added, "We will do our utmost to support the efforts of companies." He also announced, "The government will take the lead by supporting research and development (R&D) and fostering low-carbon new businesses."
Prime Minister Han said, "The government of the Republic of Korea declared carbon neutrality by 2050 and set a bold goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% compared to 2018 levels by 2030."
He noted, "Advanced countries are already raising environmental regulations and trade barriers and accelerating technological innovation for a low-carbon economy," viewing the carbon-neutral industry as a future growth engine for domestic companies.
Prime Minister Han emphasized, "Through cooperation between the private sector and the government and new investments, we can restore the dynamism of our industry and become leaders in the era of a low-carbon economy," adding, "Only by transitioning to eco-friendly and low-carbon practices can companies survive in the global market."

He continued, "It is by no means an easy challenge for our carbon-centered industries such as steel and petrochemicals," and stated, "Reducing the burden on the industry during the transition process is also a very significant task." He stressed, "Compared to industrialization, which started later than advanced countries, carbon neutrality, where the starting line is similar, could be an opportunity for us to lead future markets."
