Park Eun-bin, 30, Breaks Down Crying at Awards Ceremony... Kim Gap-su's 'Harsh Words' Controversy
"Greetings Should Be Light, Thanks Should Be Personal"
Cultural critic Kim Gap-su has sparked controversy by publicly criticizing actress Park Eun-bin, the Grand Prize winner at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards.
On the 1st, the YouTube channel 'Jung Young-jin, Choi Wook's Maebul Show' featured a segment called 'Midday Maebul Corner' discussing the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards ceremony.
In the video, Kim Gap-su opened by saying, "I want to make just one harsh comment."
He said, "Park Eun-bin, who won the Grand Prize, is an excellent actress and will continue to do well. But crying and sniffling... No matter the occasion, you should never let your emotions explode in front of others, especially not at an awards ceremony."

He added, "Because she is a great actress, I speak out of affection, but when her name was called, she bowed more than 30 times from the table to the stage. To everyone around her," and claimed, "All award recipients bow countless times. Can't they just greet lightly once? It wasn't like this in the past. Since when did bowing so deeply become intensified?"
Kim Gap-su expressed regret, saying, "Ending every awards ceremony with 'Thank you' is now a given. Almost 80-90% of all winners come up and say 'Thank you' in their remarks. Can't they express their sincere thanks personally? If someone is personally grateful, that's their own business."
He continued, "There are many things to talk about, such as their thoughts, difficulties during their work, or future plans," pointing out that acceptance speeches at awards ceremonies should be more diverse.

Regarding behavior at awards ceremonies, Kim Gap-su cited Tang Wei and Song Hye-kyo as exemplary cases and jabbed at Park Eun-bin, saying, "You're not 18 anymore; if you're already 30, learn from Song Hye-kyo."
In response, host Choi Wook emphasized, "To avoid misunderstandings, if you watch the broadcast from three weeks ago, when we supported Song Hye-kyo, (Kim Gap-su) actually liked Park Eun-bin the most."
Choi Wook defended Park Eun-bin's position, saying, "If she had acted a bit arrogantly there, articles would have flooded out, saying things like 'She wasn't humble, completely sprinkled chili powder on Baeksang'."
Netizens who saw this criticized Kim Gap-su, commenting, "Park Eun-bin's attitude was excellent. She spoke her acceptance speech clearly with stories about her work, thoughts, and emotions as Kim Gap-su wanted," "Kim Gap-su has never won a major award like the Baeksang Arts Awards, so that's why," and "Which country's law says you can't cry and sniffle?"
