EU "Korea-EU Summit Within Weeks... Discussing Security Partnership"
A senior EU official announced on the 2nd (local time) that a Korea-European Union (EU) summit is scheduled to be held later this month. The summit is expected to discuss the establishment of an expanded concept of a security partnership.
Stefano Sannino, Secretary-General of the EU External Action Service (EEAS), said in a keynote speech at the "60th Anniversary of Korea-EU Diplomatic Relations Symposium" held in Brussels, Belgium, on the same day, "Within a few weeks, we will have an important summit between the EU and Korea," adding, "It will be an opportunity to reflect on the achievements we have made together as well as to lay the groundwork for what we can accomplish together in the future."
He continued, "I would like to mention the ongoing efforts to establish a security partnership," adding, "(The partnership) will cover various regions and have an expanded (security) concept."

Secretary-General Sannino also mentioned issues related to China and the need for cooperation between the two sides. He noted that China is an important economic partner not only for Korea but also for the EU, while assessing that the challenges posed by China are increasing. He said, "There is a need to manage this relationship together and cooperate."
