Sungjae Im Advances to Tied 16th at PGA Tour RBC Heritage
18-Spot Rise After 3 Consecutive Birdies in Late 3rd Round
Opens Possibility for 5th Top 10 Finish of the Season
Im Sung-jae rose to a tie for 16th place in the third round of the PGA Tour RBC Heritage (total prize money $20 million), opening up the possibility of his fifth top-10 finish of the season.
On the 16th, Im Sung-jae shot a 5-under-par 66 with six birdies and one bogey in the third round held on the third day of the tournament at Harbour Town Golf Links (par 71, 7,121 yards) in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, USA. With a total score of 9-under-par 204, he jumped to a tie for 16th place, climbing 18 spots from a tie for 34th the previous day.
In the group tied for 9th place, he was just one stroke behind, making a performance that could expect to enter the top 10 in the final round. If Im Sung-jae finishes in the top 10 in this tournament, it will be his fifth time this season.
After reducing two strokes in the front nine, Im Sung-jae improved his position by making consecutive birdies from the 13th hole to the 15th hole in the back nine. Matt Fitzpatrick (England) took the lead with a total score of 14-under-par 199, while Patrick Cantlay (USA, 13-under-par 200) and Jordan Spieth (USA, 12-under-par 201) entered the competition for the championship in second and third place. Since all the top players are competing within one stroke, changes in the final round rankings are anticipated.
