Nighttime Speed Limit in Gwangju School Zones to Be Relaxed to 50km/h
The Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency and the Gwangju Traffic Police Committee announced on the 13th that they will pilot a variable speed limit system in the Songwon Elementary School child protection zone (school zone) area starting from the 14th.
The variable speed limit system lowers the vehicle speed limit during poor weather conditions such as fog, snow, or rain, and returns to the original speed limit when the weather clears up.
This system will be applied to child protection zones, operating the vehicle speed limit at 30 km/h during peak movement hours (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and flexibly increasing it to 50 km/h during low movement hours at night (8 p.m. to 8 a.m. the next day).
Depending on the results of the pilot operation, there are plans to consider expanding it to Songjeongseo Elementary School, Hanam Elementary School, Jeongam Elementary School in Gwangsan-gu, Manho Elementary School in Seo-gu, and Gyodae Affiliated Elementary School in Buk-gu.
