Sharing the 100-Year Future Vision of Yeosu Port with All Citizens

The '100th Anniversary of the Opening of the Port' event held around Yi Sun-sin Square in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, concluded on the 4th with enthusiastic responses as it shared the future vision of Yeosu Port with all citizens.

According to the city, over 30,000 visitors attended the 'Yeosu Port 100th Anniversary Commemoration Event,' held from the 1st to the 4th under the vision of 'Yeosu Port as a Marine Complex Tourism Hub Coexisting with People.'

Starting on the first day, the 1st, with a commemorative sculpture unveiling ceremony and a time capsule burial ceremony, the commemorative week until the 4th featured various programs such as drawing and writing contests, Yeosu Port photo exhibitions, metaverse experience centers, and yacht boarding experiences, enhancing visitor satisfaction.

In particular, the time capsule burial ceremony, which allows future generations 100 years from now to see the current Yeosu Port, was a meaningful event reflecting on the past 100 years of Yeosu Port and presenting a blueprint for the next 100 years.

Building on this event, the city plans to accelerate the 100th-anniversary projects including ▲ revitalization of cruise tourism ▲ construction of an international exhibition and convention center ▲ expansion of the access road from New Port to Shinbuk Port ▲ opening of the connecting road between Gukdong Port and Yeosu Old Port ▲ creation of a waterfront park at Yeosu Port.

Cho Seung-hwan, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, sent a congratulatory message saying, "We will continue to communicate to ensure Yeosu Port develops as a marine complex tourism hub and revitalizes together with the surrounding areas."

Jeong Gi-myeong, Mayor of Yeosu, said, "This was a meaningful occasion to share the future 100-year vision of Yeosu Port as a marine complex tourism hub with all citizens," adding, "We will actively propose various Yeosu Port projects to national plans together with citizens to unfold the future 100 years of Yeosu Port."
