Over 40 Years, Dining Out Item Prices Soar 100 Times... Jjajangmyeon Gains Attention Ahead of 'Black Day'
Average Price 6,361 Won... Up 26.9% in the Last 5 Years
In the past five years, the price of Jjajangmyeon has increased by 26.9%.
On the 5th, the professional price survey agency Korea Price Information conducted a survey on Jjajangmyeon prices ahead of "Black Day," and found that the average price this year was 6,361 won. This is 63 times higher than in 1970 (100 won), 46.4% higher than 10 years ago (4,345 won), and 26.9% higher compared to five years ago (5,011 won).
An analysis of price changes for eight main ingredients used in Jjajangmyeon showed an average increase of 55.3%. In particular, the prices of flour, cooking oil, and onions rose by 46.9%, 33.2%, and 166.7%, respectively, compared to 2018. The main cause is the rise in food ingredient prices due to inflation. Specifically, economic shocks caused by COVID-19, price increases due to the Russia-Ukraine war, and climate change are factors.
