Yeosu-si Hosts 6-Month Grand Journey 'Reading Marathon Competition'
Reading Race from April 1 to September 30
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it will hold the "9th Yeosu Reading Marathon" for six months from April 1 to September 30 to promote a culture of reading.
The "Reading Marathon" is a reading race where one page of a book is converted to 1 meter of a marathon, and participants complete the course by reading.
The competition consists of ▲ four individual courses (3km, 5km, 7km, 10km) ▲ two team courses (half, full). For teams, the half course (21.098km) allows 2 to 7 participants, and the full course (42.195km) allows 2 to 14 participants.
Applications can be made on the Yeosu Reading Marathon website from April 1 to September 15, and after registering, participants must fill out a reading log on the same website.
Finishers will receive a certificate of completion, a reading log, and various benefits such as an increased book loan limit (from 5 to 7 books).
The city will also evaluate the content of the reading logs, reading diversity, and library usage rates to award outstanding finishers.
A library official said, "We hope that through the Reading Marathon, many citizens will experience the joy and sense of accomplishment of reading and make reading a part of their daily lives."
Meanwhile, last year’s event saw 418 participants with 159 finishers, and 12 outstanding individual finishers and 3 teams were selected and awarded.
