Urging the Establishment of Nuclear Safety Grant Tax
One Million Residents Launch Signature Campaign, 'Administrative Council Transition' Agenda Under Review
On the morning of the 30th, Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 31st that the temporary meeting of the National Nuclear Power Plant Alliance heads was held via online video conference.
The main agenda items were ▲ a National Assembly policy forum to urge the establishment of a Nuclear Safety Grant Tax ▲ a campaign to collect one million resident signatures ▲ and the transition of the National Nuclear Power Plant Alliance from an informal consultative body to an administrative council.
First, the ‘National Assembly Policy Forum’ to urge the establishment of the Nuclear Safety Grant Tax will be held on May 2nd at 2 PM in the large conference room on the 2nd floor of the National Assembly Members’ Office Building.
The event will proceed in the order of a nuclear safety policy alliance agreement ceremony between local governments of the National Nuclear Power Plant Alliance and regional National Assembly members, a joint statement announcement, and the policy forum.
The campaign to collect one million resident signatures urging the establishment of the Nuclear Safety Grant Tax will be conducted from May targeting 5.03 million residents of member cities, and the completed signature sheets will be delivered to the National Assembly around August.
Additionally, the National Nuclear Power Plant Alliance, which had been operated as an informal consultative body, will be converted into a statutory administrative council to facilitate smooth administrative operations and strengthen organizational cohesion.
County Governor Sang-ik Lee said, “We must unite with one heart and mind to ensure that the legislation for the Nuclear Safety Grant Tax can be enacted within this year to secure funding for resident welfare projects.”

Meanwhile, a national petition to the National Assembly urging the establishment of the Nuclear Safety Grant Tax, signed by the heads of 23 local governments of the National Nuclear Power Plant Alliance, has been underway since the 27th. If it receives the consent of 50,000 citizens by the 26th of next month, it will be referred to the relevant standing committee for review of the Local Allocation Tax Act amendment bill.
