A man in his 40s suspected of illegally filming in the women's restrooms of a health screening center and an oriental medicine clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, has been arrested.
On the 23rd, the Seocho Police Station in Seoul announced that a detention warrant was issued for Mr. A, a man in his 40s suspected of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes (filming using a camera), around midnight that day. Mr. A is currently being held at the Seocho Police Station detention center.
Mr. A is accused of hiding a camera in the women's restrooms of a health screening center and an oriental medicine clinic located in Gangnam, Seoul, to film illegally. He committed the crime by dismantling the restroom bidet with a screwdriver and inserting a USB-shaped camera.
The police launched an investigation after receiving a report from a health screening center official about strange noises coming from the restroom. During a search, the police seized five of Mr. A's mobile phones, a laptop, and a desktop computer, where 146 illegal recordings were found. The number of victims is estimated to be at least 150.
Previously, the police applied for a detention warrant for Mr. A, but the court dismissed it. After conducting supplementary investigations, they reapplied and the warrant was issued.
