Local Self-Sufficiency Center Takes First Step in Operating 'Gurye-gun Dabin Food Bank'

Jeonnam Gurye Regional Self-Support Center (Director Yang Cheol-seung) announced that it will newly operate the 2023 Gurye-gun Dabin Food Bank.
The 'Food Bank' is a project that directly delivers food and daily necessities donated by companies or individuals to vulnerable groups. It receives surplus food and goods and supports children at risk of hunger, elderly living alone, disabled people, free meal centers, and social welfare facilities.
The Gurye-gun Dabin Food Bank is a project that delivers various foods and daily necessities to neighbors in need, bridging the physical distance, emotions, and lives between donors and users. The word 'Dabin' in Gurye-gun Dabin Food Bank means 'doing one's best with an empty heart.'
Yang Cheol-seung, director of the Gurye Regional Self-Support Center, said, "Through the newly launched Dabin Food Bank, we hope to eliminate welfare blind spots and continue to promote the project, encouraging voluntary donations from companies and citizens."
Kim Soon-ho, the county governor, said, "We expect to carry the love of donors, find neighbors who are struggling and in hardship, offer comfort to their fatigue and loneliness, and contribute to the welfare improvement of the Gurye-gun community and the spread of social community culture."
Meanwhile, the Gurye Regional Self-Support Center currently has about 40 participants in 8 business groups (GateWay Business Group, Drebassak Business Group, MacGyver Business Group, Rainbow Helper Business Group, Sarangchandeul Business Group, Sonnuri Business Group, Jirisan Farmer Business Group, Cafe Dre Business Group). It provides work opportunities to low-income people with work ability, helping them establish a stable income base and supporting their independence and self-support.
