Patent Office Detects 677 Cases of False Intellectual Property Markings on Learning Supplies
On the 20th, the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) announced that it had inspected the status of intellectual property rights labeling and advertising for educational supplies sold on major open markets since the 1st, and detected 677 cases of false labeling across 23 products.

View original imageThe types of false labeling detected include 416 cases where rights were indicated as valid despite having expired, 176 cases where non-existent rights were indicated, 48 cases of incorrect intellectual property rights names, 23 cases where rights not applicable to the product were indicated, and 14 cases where intellectual property rights application was indicated despite no application being in progress.
The number of cases by product type were tallied as follows: ▲Clear files 93 cases ▲Jijeomto (clay) 83 cases ▲Alphabet blocks 79 cases ▲Roll piano 75 cases ▲Books 76 cases ▲Others 271 cases.
KIPO notified open market operators of the products with false intellectual property rights labeling and completed corrective actions such as modification and deletion of the false labeling products.

Kim Si-hyung, Director of the Industrial Property Protection Cooperation Bureau at KIPO, stated, “We will strengthen inspections of false intellectual property rights labeling focusing on products with high public interest and demand,” adding, “Along with crackdowns, we will also expand education and promotional activities to prevent false intellectual property rights labeling.”
