Gwangyang City Wins Grand Prize in Jeollanam-do Eco-Friendly Agriculture Awards Evaluation
Recognition of Establishing a Stable Eco-Friendly Agricultural Production System
Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 15th that it received the 'Eco-friendly Agriculture Grand Prize' in the local government category at the Jeollanam-do '2023 Organic Farming Commitment Conference.'
The city has won the Eco-friendly Agriculture Grand Prize a total of seven times since 2007, with this being the third time receiving the 'Grand Prize.' With this award, Gwangyang has earned the honor of being the city/county with the most 'Grand Prize' wins among the 22 cities and counties in Jeollanam-do.
In 2022, the city invested 9.978 billion KRW in the eco-friendly agriculture sector, focusing on building a production base for eco-friendly agriculture and supporting income stabilization.
Currently, the eco-friendly certification area covers 2,206 hectares (1,360 hectares organic farming, 846 hectares pesticide-free), accounting for 46.4% of the cultivated land area. The city has also established 105 eco-friendly agricultural complexes (2,085 hectares), creating a stable production system for eco-friendly agricultural products.
Song Myeong-jong, Director of the Agricultural Support Division, stated, “We will continue to strive for the management stability and steady income improvement of eco-friendly farming households and do our best to maintain our status as the number one region for eco-friendly agriculture.”
