Union Chairman Accused of Embezzlement for Diverting Union Funds to Purchase Real Estate Sent to Prosecution
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The police have sent the chairman of a labor union to the prosecution on charges of embezzling union funds for personal use.
On the 10th, the Gwangjin Police Station in Seoul announced that it had sent Lee Mo (51), chairman of the Korea Federation of Construction Industry Unions under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, to the prosecution on charges of embezzling a large amount of union funds for personal use (including embezzlement under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes).
Lee's older brother, who served as the union auditor, and an accounting staff member were also referred to the prosecution on the same charges.

They are accused of embezzling about 1.6 billion won of union funds over three years from February 2019 by depositing union fees into personal accounts or paying salaries to non-existent employees.
