Pukyong National University Hosts the 11th Pan-Pacific Colloquium
The Institute of Global Area Studies at Pukyong National University held the 11th Trans-Pacific Dialogue on the afternoon of the 9th at the Community Hall on the 5th floor of the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business Building, both online and offline, under the theme "Evolution of Trans-Pacific Cities."
At this event, Professor Yama Yoshiyuki from the Faculty of Human Welfare at Kansei Gakuin University in Japan gave a special lecture and led a discussion on the topic "Practices of Sustainable Regional Revitalization in Disaster and Depopulation Areas."

View original imageProfessor Yama Yoshiyuki has conducted research on the role of communities in regions experiencing depopulation due to factors such as population decline, low birth rates, and aging, as well as in disaster-affected areas. He proposed that regional revitalization can be achieved by reconstructing symbolic community structures such as shrines and temples to rejuvenate and regenerate villages.
The Institute of Global Area Studies at Pukyong National University previously signed an academic exchange and research cooperation MOU with the Disaster Revitalization System Research Institute at Kansei Gakuin University, agreeing to collaborate on ▲faculty and administrative staff exchanges ▲development of joint educational programs ▲joint research, academic information, and publication exchanges ▲hosting academic conferences, seminars, and symposiums.

Additionally, the institute was selected for the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Institute Support Project by the National Research Foundation of Korea (2020?2026) and is conducting research titled "Peaceful Co-evolution of Multiple Civilizations in the Trans-Pacific as a Mega-Region: Regional Integration, National Rivalry, and Urban Hospitality." It is also continuously expanding exchanges with research institutes at universities worldwide.
