What Was the Average Compensation of Samsung Electronics' Inside Directors Last Year?
Approximately 5.8 Billion KRW Paid Per Person to 5 Individuals
Average Employee Salary is 135 Million KRW
Samsung Electronics revealed that the average compensation per internal director paid last year was approximately 5.8 billion KRW. According to the 2022 business report disclosed by Samsung Electronics on the 7th, the total compensation paid to five internal directors last year amounted to 28.93 billion KRW, averaging about 5.786 billion KRW per person.
This represents a decrease of about 10 billion KRW from the total compensation of 38.735 billion KRW paid to five internal directors in 2021, with the average compensation per person also dropping by around 2 billion KRW. However, this calculation includes the compensation of Kim Ki-nam, Chairman of SAIT (formerly the Comprehensive Technology Institute), who stepped down as a registered director last year, so the actual total compensation received by the five internal directors as of the end of last year is lower.
The decrease in compensation appears to be due to a reduction in bonuses caused by Samsung Electronics' poor performance in the second half of the year. Samsung Electronics recorded consolidated sales of 302.2314 trillion KRW, an 8.09% increase from the previous year, surpassing 300 trillion KRW for the first time in history, but operating profit decreased by 15.99% to 43.3766 trillion KRW.
Last year, the highest-paid executive at Samsung Electronics was Kim Ki-nam, Chairman of SAIT, who received a total of 5.672 billion KRW. This amount includes a salary of 1.723 billion KRW, bonuses of 3.735 billion KRW, and welfare benefits of 214 million KRW.
Including retirement pay, former Device Solutions (DS) Division Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Jeong Eun-seung, who retired as an advisor, received the highest compensation. Advisor Jeong received a total of 8.073 billion KRW, including retirement pay of 4.985 billion KRW.
Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics, received a total of 4.635 billion KRW, including a salary of 1.229 billion KRW, bonuses of 3.228 billion KRW, and welfare benefits of 179 million KRW. Kyung Kye-hyun, President and CEO in charge of the Semiconductor Division, received a total of 2.953 billion KRW, including a salary of 1.019 billion KRW, bonuses of 1.795 billion KRW, and welfare benefits of 139 million KRW.
No Tae-moon, President of the Mobile Experience (MX) Division, received a total of 4.1 billion KRW last year, combining a salary of 1.144 billion KRW, bonuses of 2.822 billion KRW, and welfare benefits of 135 million KRW. Lee Jung-bae, President of the Memory Division, received 2.82 billion KRW last year, and Park Hak-gyu, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), received 1.946 billion KRW.
Chairman Lee Jae-yong has not received a salary from Samsung Electronics since 2017.
