The hell gate designed by Moon Dong-eun opens. The Netflix series "The Glory" Part 2 will be released on the 10th. "The Glory" is a series depicting Moon Dong-eun (played by Song Hye-kyo), whose soul was shattered by childhood violence, as she risks her life to meticulously prepare a desperate revenge and the people who get caught in the whirlwind. Part 1, consisting of 8 episodes, was released on December 30 last year.
Part 1 recorded 25.41 million viewing hours within three days of release, ranking first in the global Top 10 (non-English) TV shows. It gained popularity by appearing on the Top 10 lists in 19 countries including South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Kuwait, Singapore, Morocco, and Hong Kong.
Episodes 1 to 8 depicted Moon Dong-eun being subjected to school violence by Park Yeon-jin and others during high school. Park Yeon-jin (played by Lim Ji-yeon) is portrayed as a perpetrator who commits bizarre violence such as burning Dong-eun’s body with a curling iron, without any sense of guilt. Lee Sa-ra (played by Kim Hee-ra), Choi Hye-jung (played by Cha Ju-young), Son Myung-oh (played by Kim Gun-woo), and Jeon Jae-joon (played by Park Sung-hoon) also torment Dong-eun together.
Moon Dong-eun vows revenge from the depths of despair. Ironically, this becomes the driving force of her life. Dong-eun, who lives diligently for revenge, becomes an elementary school teacher and appears in front of Yeon-jin.
Director Ahn revealed, "All the loose ends will be tied up in Part 2." While Part 1, which ended with episode 8, listed the brutal victimization and the reasons why Moon Dong-eun vowed revenge, Part 2 opens the full-fledged prelude to revenge and delivers catharsis.
At the recent press screening of episodes 9 and 10 of "The Glory" Part 2, the scene showed Park Yeon-jin entering the revenge trap set by Dong-eun. The shallow friendship and lies surrounding Son Myung-oh’s death cause cracks in their daily lives. Cornered, Yeon-jin chooses counterattack instead of reflection.
Who killed Son Myung-oh and Yoon So-hee?
In "The Glory" Part 1, the story ended with Son Myung-oh, who was blackmailing Park Yeon-jin over the past death of Yoon So-hee (played by Lee So-i), disappearing. Whether he was dead or alive, and if dead, who the culprit was, remained a mystery. Part 2 fits the puzzle surrounding Son Myung-oh’s disappearance and Yoon So-hee’s death.
Yoon So-hee died from a fall after being bullied by Yeon-jin’s group before Dong-eun in high school, but it was concluded as a suicide. However, it is revealed that it was not suicide but murder. Myung-oh, who found out, tried to blackmail Yeon-jin and her friends for money but then disappeared. Among those he blackmailed, the culprit exists.
The police investigate Son Myung-oh’s disappearance case based on Dong-eun’s tip-off. Park Yeon-jin and her friends become suspects, and cracks form in the strong solidarity built by the perpetrators. Facing the risk of exposure of their secrets such as drugs, each takes selfish attitudes.
Within just two episodes, the truth surrounding Son Myung-oh is revealed. The events that occurred during the 24 hours on the day he disappeared are depicted, leading to a new phase.
Park Yeon-jin’s counterattack, Ha Do-young’s choice
Moon Dong-eun decides to bring down Park Yeon-jin. Yeon-jin is a successful weathercaster and has a husband who runs one of the country’s leading construction companies. She lives a false life, wearing a thorough mask. Dong-eun reaches out to unmask Yeon-jin. When Dong-eun appears before her, baring her teeth for revenge, Yeon-jin fights back. To protect what she has maintained through wrongful means, she resorts to more vicious methods and sinks into the swamp of destruction.
Cornered, Yeon-jin searches for a new curling iron to replace the electric curling iron she used to torment Dong-eun. She threatens Dong-eun’s Achilles’ heel, her mother and Hyun-nam (played by Yeom Hye-ran), using them as leverage. The solidarity between Hyun-nam, who is also a victim of violence, and Dong-eun deepens further in Part 2.
Ha Do-young learns that Park Yeon-jin has had a long-term affair with Jeon Jae-joon. With the identity of his daughter Ye-sol also revealed, attention is focused on the choices Ha Do-young will make going forward. Outwardly nice, but filled with superiority, hypocrisy, and a sense of privilege, Ha Do-young, born with a silver spoon, seems poised to guide Park Yeon-jin into another hell while protecting his own life.
Especially, Do-young’s heart, caught in the emotional whirlwind born from curiosity about Dong-eun, is a key point to watch. It will be interesting to see what choices Do-young, who harbors feelings for Dong-eun, will make on the hellish path ahead. Director Ahn introduced him as "the silk wing that will stir up a typhoon." It remains to be seen where the typhoon he brings will head.
Joo Yeo-jeong reveals her true face
"Did you know? If you inject without removing all the air, a person could die."
In the recently released teaser for "The Glory" Part 2, Joo Yeo-jeong (played by Lee Do-hyun) gently murmurs this while holding a syringe to Park Yeon-jin’s face.
The most anticipated character in Part 2 is Joo Yeo-jeong. Plastic surgeon Joo Yeo-jeong carries trauma from losing his father to a serial killer. Previously, Yeo-jeong showed a cold face, vowing revenge while recalling the psychopath murderer who brutally killed the doctor father who saved him. There has been interest in what role he will play in Dong-eun’s revenge journey.
