Opening of the 269th Geochang County Council Extraordinary Session
Plans for Military Administration Questions and Field Visits
The Geochang County Council in Gyeongnam held the 269th extraordinary session from the 6th to the 10th, lasting five days.
The main schedule of this extraordinary session began with the opening on the 6th, followed by county administration questions on the 7th, and site visits to major county projects such as the Geochang Detention Center and the Elevator 2nd Test Tower on the 8th. On the 9th, ordinance and general bills will be reviewed, and the session will conclude after approval at the 3rd plenary meeting on the 10th.
Following the opening ceremony, the 1st plenary meeting featured 5-minute free speeches by council members Park Suja, Choi Jungyu, Pyo Jusuk, and Shin Mijeong.
Councilor Park stated that the continuously increasing population of return-to-farming and rural migrants is a great support for sustaining our county’s population of 60,000, and emphasized the need for active efforts to revitalize return-to-farming and rural migration through administrative and financial support.
Next, Councilor Choi proposed expanding the domestic market by providing processed agricultural products produced within the county, such as apple juice, to visitors including those visiting government offices and institutions, to revitalize the depressed rural areas and promote the excellence of our county’s agricultural products.
Councilor Pyo expressed strong support for the promotion of constructing a crematorium in Geochang County, where residents currently suffer from inconvenience due to the absence of such a facility. While acknowledging the inevitable NIMBY phenomenon, she appealed to gather positive discourse among residents to ensure the successful implementation of the crematorium construction.
Councilor Shin highly evaluated the voluntary activities of resident communities that are revitalizing our depressed region through various events and projects, and stressed the need for Geochang County’s interest and active support.
Chairman Lee Honghee urged, “I propose to fellow council members to not only criticize but also present alternatives so that residents’ questions about county administration are resolved and our county can develop in the right direction. I also ask the executive branch to thoroughly inspect for any hazards in facilities used by residents during the thaw season and to make every effort to prevent large-scale forest fires like last year’s East Coast wildfire.”
