Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon-do Selected as a 'Wellness Tourism City'

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization announced on the 5th that Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon-do has been selected as a 'Wellness Tourism City.' Moving forward, they will create tourism products utilizing wellness resources and establish a foundation for the sustainability of related projects.
The Wellness Tourism City project is being launched for the first time this year. It was planned to provide healing programs to tourists while revitalizing the local economy. Jeongseon-gun received the highest score in a comprehensive evaluation considering the appropriateness of the implementation plan, the attractiveness of local tourism, and the expected effects of the project. A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official explained, "The development and promotion of specialized tourism products based on the three government-recommended wellness tourism sites (High1 Resort HAO Wellness, Park Roche Resort & Wellness, Romizian Garden) and the long-term vision were impressive."
Jeongseon-gun will form an implementation organization involving universities, merchants, and resident representatives to establish a successful model. They will develop wellness tourism specialized products such as mindfulness meditation trips and Jeongseon healing food experience tours, and operate the Wellness Happiness Care Academy to train professionals. They will also hold events like the 'Wellness Tourism Festa' in connection with the recommended wellness tourism sites. A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official said, "We hope this becomes a new model that overcomes the crisis of local extinction and drives regional economic development."

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to promote the enactment of the 'Healing Tourism Industry Promotion Act' for rapid stabilization. The act will clearly define wellness tourism, establish a cooperative system among related organizations, register healing tourism businesses, and designate healing tourism industrial zones.
