Cultural Heritage Administration Provides Gandhara Site Research Facility to Pakistan
Opening of the Gandara Cultural Heritage Research Center
The Cultural Heritage Administration announced that the 'Gandhara Cultural Heritage Research Center,' supported in collaboration with the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation, was inaugurated on the 2nd (local time). This research facility systematically preserves and manages the Gandhara relics remaining in northern Pakistan. It is located on the first floor of the Pakistan Archaeological Museum building. The center is equipped with a cultural heritage investigation and research room, conservation treatment room, analysis room, education room, and conference room, as well as various equipment necessary for the preservation, treatment, and analysis of cultural heritage. A Cultural Heritage Administration official stated, "Gandhara cultural heritage greatly influenced East Asian Buddhism," adding, "It is highly significant in terms of international support for its preservation."

Gandhara is the old name of the Peshawar region. From the 2nd century BCE to the 5th century CE, a unique artistic style that fused Buddhism and ancient Greek culture developed. Since 2021, the Cultural Heritage Administration has been conducting the 'Gandhara Cultural Promotion and Tourism Resource Development Policy Support Project,' investing 4.8 billion won through 2025.
