Kim Eui-gyeom: "Han Dong-hoon Arrest Motion Will Only Lead to Dazzling Political Investigation"
As the arrest motion against Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, is put to a vote on the afternoon of the 27th, attention is focused on whether Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon will reveal new evidence related to Lee's 'Daejang-dong scandal' before the vote. Kim Eui-gyeom, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, predicted, "Only flashy political investigations will be conducted."
On the 27th, on BBS's 'Jeon Young-shin's Morning Journal,' Spokesperson Kim stated, "If there had been decisive evidence, it would have been presented long ago. But there was nothing. The arrest motion was submitted to the National Assembly last Friday, and if there had been such evidence, it would have been disclosed in the motion, but there is none at all."
He added, "Regarding Lee, the prosecution has been saying that 'Lee Jae-myung is the owner of 42.8 billion won related to Cheonhadongin No. 1,' but they have not been able to produce even a 10,000 won bill, let alone 42.8 billion won," and continued, "So, without evidence, Minister Han will likely conduct his characteristic flashy, dazzling political investigation. That is what I expect."
Regarding the vote on the arrest motion that day, he saw a high possibility of rejection. When asked by the host whether there would be 'invalid votes' or 'rebellious votes,' he said, "there is absolutely none. I do not sense any signs of (invalid or rebellious votes) at all."
However, the Democratic Party is concerned that if the motion is rejected, it will fall into the 'bulletproof frame.' Especially with the general election about a year away, the ongoing 'judicial risk' is causing cumulative damage to the party. In response, Spokesperson Kim said, "If this investigation had been conducted normally, calmly, and fairly, the argument of a bulletproof National Assembly might hold, but this investigation is a typical targeted investigation and political oppression," adding, "As Lee himself said, in a world where robbers and gangsters coexist, raising the fence and locking the gate is inevitable."
Regarding Rep. Seol Hoon, a non-Lee faction member, who advocated for an 'overwhelming rejection' but also hinted at Lee's possibility of 'resolving the issue himself,' Kim dismissed it, saying, "There is no information that Lee will voluntarily resign, nor do I get that impression."

However, even Rep. Jung Sung-ho, a leader of the pro-Lee faction, has suggested the possibility of resignation by saying that Lee might make a brilliant move at an unexpected time. In response, Spokesperson Kim said, "He did not speak on the premise of resignation but spoke in principle," and added, "Those who mentioned resignation seem to judge that this situation is disadvantageous in the long term, but I rather think time is on the Democratic Party's side. Once the arrest warrant passes three times, a clear backlash will occur."
