Seoul City Holds Bell-Ringing Ceremony to Commemorate the 104th Anniversary of the March 1st Movement
In-Person Event with Citizens for the First Time in 4 Years
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 27th that it will hold a bell-ringing ceremony at Bosingak at noon on the 1st of next month to commemorate the 104th anniversary of the March 1st Movement. This bell-ringing event is especially meaningful as it will be the first in-person event for citizens since 2019.
This year’s bell-ringing ceremony will be attended by Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul, and descendants of independence activists. The bell ringers will be divided into three groups of four people each, ringing the bell 11 times per group for a total of 33 rings.
The bell ringers this year include seven descendants of independence activists recommended by the Liberation Association, as well as prominent figures from the cultural and artistic community who have widely promoted the history and significance of the anti-Japanese movement in our society.
Meanwhile, prior to the bell-ringing ceremony, the Jongno District Choir will perform a choral concert. Additionally, at Bosingak, citizens visiting the site will have the opportunity to participate in a ‘calligraphy experience event’ where they can write parts of the ‘Declaration of Independence,’ providing a moment to reflect on the spirit of sacrifice of the patriotic martyrs who longed for independence.
