Japan Imposes Financial Sanctions on Russia... 7 Trillion Won Support for Ukraine
On the 24th, marking the first anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, additional sanctions against Russia and support measures for Ukraine were announced.
According to local broadcaster NHK and others, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stated at the G7 virtual summit held that day, attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, that the Japanese government would impose additional asset freezes on more than 120 individuals and organizations in Russia.
He also said that the list of export items banned, including those related to drones that contribute to strengthening Russia's industrial base, would be expanded.
Furthermore, he pledged additional financial support amounting to 5.5 billion dollars (approximately 7 trillion won) for Ukraine to aid in war damage reconstruction and other efforts.
Prime Minister Kishida said, "Russia's invasion is a violation of international law and cannot be justified," adding, "Through strict sanctions against Russia and strong support for Ukraine, we will stop Russia's invasion and uphold an international order based on the rule of law."
He also appealed, "To stop Russia's aggression, it is important to prevent third parties from providing military support to Russia," emphasizing the need to discuss measures against third countries that evade the sanctions imposed by the G7.
Prime Minister Kishida further stressed, "Russia's nuclear threats are a serious threat to international peace and security and cannot be accepted under any circumstances," and "Russia must not break the 77-year record of nuclear non-use."
