Naju-si Promotes 'Diesel Vehicle Emission Reduction Project' to Improve Air Quality
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do, is promoting the ‘2023 Diesel Vehicle Emission Reduction’ project to reduce fine dust and improve air quality.
According to the city on the 21st, this project will invest a total of 2.85 billion KRW for 1,265 vehicles in four areas: early retirement of old diesel vehicles, purchase of new LPG cargo vehicles, installation of particulate matter reduction devices, and support for construction machinery engine replacement.
Early retirement is allocated for 1,000 vehicles, particulate matter reduction devices for 135 vehicles, new LPG cargo vehicle purchases for 100 vehicles, and construction machinery engine replacements for 30 vehicles.
The support targets for early retirement of old diesel vehicles are ‘diesel vehicles with emission grades 4 and 5’ and ‘road-use type 3 construction machinery (dump trucks, concrete mixers, concrete pump trucks) manufactured before 2009 under the emission standards applied at that time.’
The vehicle must have been continuously registered in Naju City for more than six months as of the application deadline.
Additionally, applications are accepted from ‘diesel vehicles that passed the sensory inspection,’ ‘vehicles confirmed as operable on the early retirement vehicle confirmation certificate,’ and ‘diesel vehicles that have not had particulate matter reduction devices installed or been converted to low-emission engines through government or local government support.’
However, those with unpaid local taxes or environmental improvement charges, vehicles deregistered for export, and vehicles deregistered due to exceeding vehicle limits are excluded from support.
If an old diesel vehicle is scrapped early and a new LPG cargo vehicle is purchased, the applicant will be given priority in the early retirement support and receive an additional 1 million KRW.
The support for installing particulate matter reduction devices (DPF) targets diesel vehicles with emission grade 5, covering 90% of installation costs.
The construction machinery engine replacement project for forklifts and excavators subject to emission regulations before 2004 is supported 100%.
Applications can be submitted by visiting the Eup/Myeon/Dong administrative welfare centers or online through the vehicle emission grade system until the 28th.
Details such as support limits and rates by vehicle type and weight, and additional support items can be found on the city hall website’s public notice (2023 Diesel Vehicle Emission Reduction Project Implementation Plan).
Selection of each support recipient will be finalized by the end of next month and notified individually.
