Gochang-gun to Open 'Gochang Eupseong East Gate' Starting Next Month

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun announced on the 21st that it will open the East Gate (Deungyangru) within Gochang Eupseong from the 1st of next month in celebration of the ‘2023 World Heritage City Gochang Visit Year.’

The opening hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The county expects that the visitor route will be expanded by linking Gochang Eupseong, Natural Yard, and Nodong Reservoir Water Deck, thereby increasing the length of stay of external tourists within the region.

In addition, to improve the viewing environment of Gochang Eupseong, palm mats were installed along the fortress trail to maintain the walking path.

Convenience facilities such as restroom remodeling, installation of emergency safety bells inside restrooms, and coffee vending machines will also be expanded.

The county plans to provide visitors with attractions and special memories to experience historical culture through a traditional play experience yard and the operation of gatekeepers dressed in traditional Joseon Dynasty costumes.

Previously, the county has been offering free admission to Gochang Eupseong since last month.

Gochang residents continue to enter free of charge as before, and for paid visitors, the full admission fee is paid in Gochang Love Gift Certificates to promote tourist inflow and revitalize the local economy.

Oh Misook, head of the county’s Culture and Arts Division, said, “In celebration of the 2023 World Heritage City Gochang Visit Year, Gochang Eupseong will be reborn as a space of leisure and rest where history breathes, further enhancing its dignity as a representative tourist destination,” and added, “We will do our best to lead the era of 10 million tourists to Gochang, a place visitors want to return to.”
