Telecom Industry Supports Turkey Relief Efforts... Free Roaming for Dispatched Personnel
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] The Korea Telecommunications Operators Association (KTOA) announced on the 17th that telecommunications companies will take active measures to participate in the government-wide relief efforts for T?rkiye.
The telecom companies have agreed to support roaming charges for relief workers dispatched to the site and international call charges to T?rkiye to aid the relief activities.
First, for relief activities, the three mobile carriers SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus will fully cover the roaming charges for emergency relief teams, NGOs, medical support teams, and other dispatched personnel sent to T?rkiye. The coverage period is from February 1 to March 31 (2 months), with plans to adjust the period depending on the situation.
With this measure by the three mobile carriers, dispatched personnel such as T?rkiye emergency relief teams will be able to use necessary calls and data without burden for swift relief activities on site. Disaster relief efforts are expected to proceed more smoothly.
Additionally, 50% of the international call charges from domestic lines to local numbers in T?rkiye will be discounted. The telecom companies participating in the 50% discount on international call charges are KT (001), LG Uplus (002), SK Broadband (005), SK Telink (00700), and Sejong Telecom (008). The target period is from February 1 to March 31 (2 months), with the possibility of extension depending on local circumstances.
All domestic residents and foreigners will be able to use international calls through the participating telecom companies’ services to check on family and acquaintances in T?rkiye and handle local business during the designated period with support.
