Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education to Establish and Reopen 7 Public Kindergartens and Elementary Schools
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 14th that it will establish six kindergartens and one elementary school and reopen them in March this year.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, to strengthen public early childhood education and expand public kindergartens, four attached kindergartens will be newly established at Obong Elementary School and others. The attached kindergarten at Eunro Elementary School will be converted into a standalone kindergarten by constructing a new building using the surplus land of the elementary school.
Additionally, Gaepo Kindergarten and Gaepo Elementary School, which have been closed since March 2018 due to the reconstruction of Gaepo Jugong Complex 3 and 4, will be reopened and reestablished.
Meanwhile, Hwayang Elementary School will be merged and closed due to a decrease in the local school-age population. Established in 1983, Hwayang Elementary School had been operating as a small school since 2011, and its merger and closure were confirmed last February, followed by an administrative notice. The 62 students of Hwayang Elementary School will be redistributed to Seongsu Elementary School or Jangan Elementary School starting this March by adjusting the school districts.
