The Korea Forest Service Receives 'Overall Excellence' in Government Performance Evaluation
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Forest Service announced on the 7th that it was selected as an excellent institution in the comprehensive evaluation in the ‘2022 Government Work Evaluation’ targeting 45 central administrative agencies.
Up to this year, the Korea Forest Service has been selected as an excellent institution a total of seven times, setting the record for the most among agencies at the bureau level.
In particular, this year is more meaningful as it received an ‘Excellent’ rating in all four evaluation categories?major policies, regulatory innovation, government innovation, and policy communication?for the first time since its establishment.
In the category evaluations, the major policies field received an excellent rating for achievements such as tree planting using the extended virtual world (Metaverse), restoration of areas damaged by forest fires, introduction and implementation of the forestry direct payment system, establishment of a super-large forest fire response system, successful hosting of the World Forestry Congress, and opening of the 2nd National Arboretum.
In the government innovation category, the Korea Forest Service was highly evaluated for improving organizational culture by enacting directives to establish a handover system within the organization and for integrating advanced technology into routine work, such as shortening on-site inspections of unauthorized occupation through an aerial photo deep learning analysis system.
In the policy communication category, efforts were recognized to inform the public about the Korea Forest Service’s disaster management role by conducting real-time on-site briefings by the Korea Forest Service chief at disaster sites and promoting highly receptive publicity activities such as producing forest fire suppression team Legos.
In the regulatory innovation category, the Korea Forest Service received high marks for focusing on resolving difficulties faced by the forestry industry in the field through direct communication between the Korea Forest Service chief and forestry organizations.
