KT and Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Join Hands to Nurture Youth AI Experts
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] KT announced on the 5th that it has signed a business agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education to actively collaborate on nurturing youth artificial intelligence (AI) talent, focusing on specialized high schools in Seoul.
Accordingly, KT plans to introduce ▲ AICE (AI Competency Qualification Exam) ▲ cooperate in operating the high school credit system ▲ strengthen AI capabilities for teachers at AI high schools in the Seoul area.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has been supporting AI high schools such as Seoul Digital Tech High School and Sunrin Internet High School since 2020 to establish a future-oriented vocational education system and cultivate specialized technical talent in the AI field. Currently, a total of 10 AI high schools are operating, including Meister high schools like Mirim Girls' Information Science High School and Seoul Robot High School. Each school offers specialized departments in fields such as AI Software, AI Computing, and Advanced Robot Control to nurture technical talent.
Previously, KT operated a practical AI education program last year in collaboration with Kwangwoon Artificial Intelligence High School. AI department teachers used AI educational content developed by KT to conduct classes for 60 enrolled students, and subsequently assessed practical skills through the AICE Basic qualification exam. 90% of the students passed the exam, which is significantly higher than the average pass rate of AICE.
Based on these collaborative cases, KT plans to contribute to nurturing youth AI talent in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. First, AICE will be introduced to assess students' AI competency. Considering each school's demand, student composition, and academic achievement, students will be able to challenge levels from the beginner Basic to intermediate Associate and advanced Professional.
Additionally, KT will operate a self-developed practical AI education course recognized as an out-of-school credit institution for AI high schools in Seoul.
KT and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will also actively cooperate to strengthen AI capabilities of vocational high school teachers. To enable teachers to lead practical AI classes in schools, an AI teacher training program will be detailed focusing on the latest digital technology trends, AI application cases in industry, data utilization, AI project discovery methodologies, and AI teaching and learning methods.
