Daegu Urban Corporation Installs Security Facilities in 50 Rental Housing Units for Low-Income Families
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-seon] Daegu Urban Development Corporation will install CCTV and LED dimming lights in 50 buildings and 500 households of purchased rental housing for low-income residents this year to prevent crime.
Daegu Urban Development Corporation announced on the 19th, "With a project budget of 200 million KRW this year, we will install CCTV, LED dimming lights, and urban gas pipe security curves in 50 buildings and 500 households of purchased rental housing, and also plan to tidy up landscaping where tall trees are planted. Furthermore, by 2025, we plan to additionally install crime prevention security facilities in 111 buildings and 1,225 households."
Purchased rental housing is home to many crime-vulnerable groups, making crime prevention environment improvement urgent. Especially, since purchased rental housing is multi-family housing with more diverse forms compared to apartment complexes and lacks security facilities, it is vulnerable to crime, thus requiring customized security facilities.
In June 2020, Daegu Urban Development Corporation signed a public rental housing crime prevention business agreement with Dalseo Police Station, Dalseo District, and LH Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Headquarters, the first nationwide, and promoted the project targeting public rental housing in Dalseo District. In July 2021, it signed a business agreement with the Daegu Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee and expanded the target to the entire Daegu area.
As a result of the crime prevention environment improvement conducted by Daegu Urban Development Corporation, 80.5% of residents responded that it contributed to reducing crime anxiety, and 74.4% responded that satisfaction and expected effects were high, being evaluated as greatly contributing to the realization of safety welfare felt by residents.
Also, on October 26 last year, it won the Excellence Award (Commissioner of the National Police Agency Commendation) in the CPTED category at the 7th Korea Crime Prevention Awards co-hosted by the National Police Agency and The JoongAng, competing against 241 participating organizations.
