Sacheon-si Gains Spotlight as the Nation's Top Winter Training Destination
Hosting 70 Teams in 5 Sports Including 25 Soccer Teams
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sacheon City, Gyeongnam Province, is gaining attention as the nation's top winter training camp destination, revitalizing local small business owners.
As of January, the city announced on the 19th that it has attracted 1,039 people from 70 teams across five sports: 25 soccer teams, 2 baseball teams, 18 basketball teams, 24 judo teams, and 1 athletics team.
In the Stove League tournaments held by teams training in Sacheon, a total of 41 teams with 433 participants are competing, including 17 basketball teams with 183 players and 24 judo teams with 250 players.
The judo training teams' Stove League tournament will be held from January 29 to February 4, and registration is currently open. Each year, winter training teams stay in Sacheon for about two to three weeks, greatly contributing to the local economy through accommodations, restaurants, and markets.
The main reason Sacheon is recognized as a prime winter training location is its geographical advantage. With the opening of the Tongyeong-Daejeon Expressway, it is close to the Seoul metropolitan area and allows for linked training with Jinju, Namhae, and Tongyeong.
Additionally, its warm climate with little snowfall in winter, well-equipped sports facilities, and convenience facilities better than anywhere else in the country serve as strong attractions for sports teams nationwide.
The Namildae Beach sand beach, known as the optimal site for endurance training, Gaksan Bonghwadae, Waryongsan Mountain, and fresh raw fish, popular among athletes as the best stamina food, are all easily accessible.
Moreover, the fantastic night views of the Samcheonpo Bridge and Sacheon Sea Cable Car add another charm, leaving visitors with a memorable image that makes them want to return.
A city official said, “Many sports teams nationwide are making numerous inquiries about winter training. We expect Sacheon to soon establish itself as the nation's top sports leisure city.”
The city provides hygiene management and service training to lodging and dining businesses to ensure that training participants can focus on their training without inconvenience.
